Chapter Two, Part One: Non Compos Mentis

This all brings me back to where we started this insane journey. Some other synonyms for “insane” that I think perfectly apply to this are: “mad as a March hare,” “non compos mentis,” “stark raving mad,” “nutty as a fruitcake,” “off one’s chump,” “away with the fairies,” and many more. Seriously, if you look up “insane” synonyms on Google, those are all there. And this is exactly how I felt as I stood in lighting class my first day in the film program, with no idea of what anything was or what went where. Our professor sent us off into pairs and instructed us to build and take down multiple different types of lights.

“Can you get a C-Stand?” my blond-haired, lanky partner asked me as he handled the lighting kit we were assigned to.

“...I don’t know what that is.”
